On the picture on the right, numerous tubular flowers are shown. This type of flower is located in the middle and open at a later time than ligulate flowers on the periphery. This can prevent intra-competition.
It is obvious that the appearance of sunflower is similar to that of the sun. Therefore, many churches have chosen this flower as a symbol of hope and truth. Some empires in the past even worshipped the sunflowers.
A more colourful appearance can easily attract insects or animals. Why the middle part of the sunflower appeared to be black instead of bright yellow like the periphery?
