The species is in the family Compositae, which is characterized by the presence of head inflorescence, and from the left photo above, you can see the head of the flowers are attached to the flat disc. Also, it has only ligulate flowers, which has tongue-like petals. In the right photo, it shows the achenes with pappus, which act as a parachute for the fruit dispersal.

This species might be originated in eastern Asia, but is now considered as a pantropical weed, because it is found worldwide with a self-supporting growth habit. It is pollinated by insects and is recognized as an edible wild vegetable.

I am curious about the life cycle of the plant as there is little information about it on the internet. Also, what are the advantages of having ligulate flowers only?
