Freesia refracta belongs to family Iridaceae. It is native to southern Africa but now found in different parts in the world. It is one of the most popular cut flower due to its pleasant fragrance that can perfume the entire room.

F. refracta is a herbaceous plant that grows from a bulb-like corm. It has 5-7 linear or linear-lanceolate basal leaves. It has two different types of roots. The thick contractile roots and thin roots support the plant and transport the minerals respectively.

It is named refracta due to its bending backward scorpoid cyme inflorescence, which bloom from the bottom to the top. It has highly fragrant funnel-shaped flower with 6 tepals.
Its has inferior ovary with three carpels, fruiting trilobed capsule.
