The photographs above shows shelf fungi growing on a piece of wood. Shelf fungi is a hymenomycete under basidiomycota, meaning they produce spores externally. Note the hymenomycete is not a formal grouping in taxonomy. They are characterised by producing woody, shelf-like fruiting bodies.
