Description

Ageratum conyzoides (藿香薊), with a common name called Billygoat-weed, belongs to family Asteraceae (菊科). They are herbs that commonly grow in relatively dry and infertile soil. To deal with dry condition, trichomes which are 'hair-like structure' can be observed on stems and leaves (photo E). These trichomes help to absorb extra water from the air. They have simple opposite leaves (photo E).
The type of inflorescence shows in this species is capitulum and only tubular florets can be found. Also, the individual flowers heads cluster together. Therefore, we can always see a cluster of flower heads instead of single individual flower heads.

Fun information:
By crushing the leave, rancid odor is produced which makes people think of the smell of a male goat. Therefore, this species gets the common name called 'billygoat-weed'.
