Description

Hyophorbe lagenicaulis belongs to the Arecaceae family. It has pinnately divided leaves and columnar stem. It is monoecious. Its flowers have panicle inflorescence. The bracts grow upwards. Its name comes from its morphology as it is quite short and swollen (like a bottle too).

Fun fact:
It could not withstand coldness/ freezing so it could not grow in cold regions. Sadly, this species is regarded as "vulnerable" in the IUCN Red List. (Fortunately we could still see it at CUHK).
