Description

Spirogyra is a type of filamentous green algae belonging to phylum Streptophyta. Each ribbon-like chloroplast contains multiple pyrenoids and is arranged in a helical manner. 

Spirogyra can reproduce sexually and asexually. 
During sexual reproduction, two haploid cells produce a diploid zygospore through conjugation. The photo shows that a conjugation tube is formed to connect two haploid cells and facilitate fertilization. 
On the other hand, haploid cells can reproduce asexually by fragmentation.
