Description

Canna generalis is a member of the family Cannaceae. As shown in the photo, they have alternate and pinnately-veined leaves with sheath at their base. Their flowers (asymmetric and arranged in scorpioid cymose inflorescence) are in yelow and orange patches, which helps them to attract insect pollinators. An interesting thing to note is that their colorful 'petals' are not all true petals! They usually have only 3 petals, and the remaining 5 petal-like structures are petaloid stamens. When their inferior overies mature, they will also form capsule fruits - with remnants of bracts found above the capsule.
