Description

Bamboo :   Liliopsida (monocots)
                     - Poaceae

-Ligules (small tongue)
Ligules is a thin membrane located at the apex of leaf sheath with blade attached. 
-Auricles (small ears)
Auricles are lateral projecting lobes on each side of a site where the blade and sheath connected together.
  
The size and shape of both auricles and ligules are very important characters for separating bamboo species.
