Description
Psilotum is one of the most primitive fern-like vascular plants. The sporophyte consists of dichotomously forking aerial stems. It has no true leaves or roots. Instead, it has leaf-like structure called enations with no vascular bundles and root-like structure rhizoids. It can also form a mycorrhizal relationship with a fungus in the underground stem rhizome. It reproduces by synergia that consist of three sporangia combining together.
