This is the button stage of edible Volvariella volvacea, which undergoes hemiangiocarpic development. When the mushroom grows, the universal veil will break open and become the scales, while the bottom half of the universal veil will be left behind at the base of the mushroom's stalk, known as the volva. During the process, the hymenium matures and gills develop.
Well-done! Informative description! However, in order to show the hymenial surface and universal veil, you may need to dissect the specimen and exam under microscope.
