Description

(lower left) This is a simple leaf of Vernicia montana, which belongs to the family Euphorbiaceae. The species' cup-shaped leaf glands are located at the sinus of lobes, which is the junction between lamina and petiole. (upper right) Leaf glands refer to the glandular tissues producing secretory products, while they can be internal or external. Take the reddish brown external leaf glands of Vernicia montana as example, they serve as the extrafloral nectaries to secrete nectar and attract pollinators.
