Description
This photo shows two swollen nodes on the stem of Polygonum chinense. Swollen nodes are the swelling sites at the base of petiole. It is a major feature of Polygonaceae family. Swollen nodes are covered with a tubular sheath-liked expansion called ochrea. Orchea is a plant structure formed of stipules fused into a sheath surrounding the stem.
