Description
Stupule is a pair of protective structures that is leaf-like and found at the leaf base or along a petiole. It is used to protect the developing leaf bud or flower bud. Stipules in Magnoliaceae are hood-like and often deciduous, leaving the stipular scar. The length of the stipular scar on the petiole is a useful feature for plant taxonomy.
