Description
Laticiferous means containing latex. Latex is produced by laticifers, which are ducts of living latex-secreting cells and found in approximate 20 families of herbaceous and woody angiosperms. They are abundant in phloem, but also found throughout the whole plant. The function of laticifer remains unclear, but is believed to aid wound-closing. This phenomenon is demonstrated by Rhus succedanea. Its latex is toxic and may induce allergic effects. Upon oxidation, the color of the latex changed from white to black. Therefore, it is advised not to touch this plant in the wild.
