The sporophyte of Laminaria is differentiated into epidermis, cortex and medulla. It forms five layers structure with 2 layers of epidermis, 2 layers of cortex and 1 layer of medulla.
We can distinguish Laminaria from Porphyra and Ulva by observing the five layers structure under low power microscope.
