Description

Pinnately divided leaves are compound leaves. This branching pattern shows the attachment of leaflets along the 2 sides of rachis (extension of petiole). 1 leaf is comprised of a few to numerous fully divided leaflets (cf. pinnatifid) that are separated with adjacent leaflets.This arrangement resembles the shape of a feather so this type of leaves are also called 'feather-leaved'.

Some members of Palmae as shown in the 2 upper photos (family: Arecaceae) (common name: palm trees), ferns and cycadophyta exhibit such type of leaf arrangement.
