Description

The dikaryotic hyphae of ascocarp in ascomycetes bear the spore-producing structure, the asci. The ascus contains haploid nuclei of both mating types after plasmogamy. The nuclei undergo karyogamy inside and form a diploid nucleus. The diploid nucleus then undergoes meiosis and mitosis to form 8 ascospores.
