The 'sterile jacket' surrounding the sex organs and leaf-like structures shown in this photo link this group of algae to land plants, as this feature show a resemblance to those of bryophytes or other land plants. Other features of Chara that resembles those of land plants include a simple rooting system and sporopollenin-containing wall.

From this graph, we could also observe crown cell (located on top of oogonium). Crown cell is not just one cell but actually made up of five corona cells. And tube cell, which is on the surface of oogonium.

May I know the reason why it is stained with red color? What we may observe better under red. Besides, it is sad that the shield cell is not in focus.

Leung_CheukYin_A: I'm not sure why the red stain was used. But the effect is nice as it made the outlines of different parts more prominent.
