Description

Asymmetric bisexual flower of Canna sp. has three sepals and three fused petals. However, five petaloid stamens are present which one of them bear a pair of anther on the top of petaloid structure. There is only one fertile anther and another one is sterile (see the left photo). This flower shows inferior ovary below the sepals (see the lower right photo, also see the petaloid style with pollens attached at the tip). The cross section of its ovary shows axile placentation with three fused carpels (see the upper right photo).

Very detailed description. Effort can be made further to show the position of ovary (e.g. LS to show that it is an inferior ovary).
