Description

Laminaria sp. is brown algae, which shows a high degree of differentiation of sporophyte into epidermis, cortex & medulla.
Zygote (2n) would be formed via fertilization of egg (n) and sperm (n) produced by female and male gametophytes respectively. Meiosis would occur to produce zoospores (n).
Noted that erect sterile structure, paraphyses (2n) would be found in the epidermis layer to support the zoosporangia to maintain an upright position.

Very nice photo and labelling.

However, the meiosis doesn't happen immediately after the formation of zygote. Paraphyses also help to prevent desiccation.
