Do you know which generation, the sporophyte or the gametophyte of Anthoceros is shown?

It is the sporophyte shown above.

When the sporophyte is mature, the capsule will be split into 2 valves to disperse the spores.

The photo shows the sporophyte of Anthoceros. This kind of plants is called hornworts because of their hornlike sporophytes. During the spore development, the spore mother cells will undergo meiosis, resulting in tetrads each formed by 4 mature spores. When mature, the capsule (sporangium) will splits open to release spores. The photo also shows the green layers of the sporophyte, indicating that the layers of sporophyte may be associated with photosynthetic cells.
