Description

The sporophyte generation of Sphagnum reproduces by means of haploid spores, which is produced and enclosed in the sporangium.
The sporangium is supported by the foot connecting the pseudopodium of the female gametophyte.
When spores are mature and the condition is favourable, the operculum on top of the sporangium will detach and spores can be released.
