Description

Here is the sporangium of Rhizopus sp. under 100x magnification. Rhizopus sp. is Zygomycota that has a haplontic life cycle. The stalk is called sporangiophore, the specialized hyphae that form sporangium. The swollen end is the columella which bears the mature black spores. As the sporangium is responsible for the asexual reproduction of Rhizopus sp., the sporangiophore, sporangium, columella, spores and stolon are haploid(n). In this state, most of the spores were dispersed.
