Description

A member of Melastomataceae 野牡丹科 (in this family, stamens usually twice as many as petals and in 2 whorls, ovary inferior or semi-inferior). 

Flower: presence of hypanthium, two types of stamens (dimorphic), type 1 have longer filaments and in the outer whorl, and they have long connectives extended from the base; while the type 2 stamens are in the inner whorl, having shorter filaments and with connectives not extended. 

Leaves: 3-5 basiveined (3 basiveined in the picture)
Sepals: sparsely strigose (被糙伏毛)
Petals: ciliate along the margin, a bundle of stiff hairs at the apex (white circle with dotted line)
Androecium: 5 long stamens (outer whorl), 5 short stamens (inner whorl)
Gynoecium: ovary half-inferior, axile placentation, 5 loculi
