Description
The picture shows the flower of Dendrobium sp. which belongs to family Orchidaceae with focus on the column. It contains a labellum modified from upper petal which is rotated 180 degree for landing of pollinators. After the insect land on the labellum, it may unintentionally grab the anther cap at the top of column, which contains the pollinia, on its back and fly to another flower of same species. The pollen may then pass to the stigmatic cavity which then deliver to ovary of the flower so that the ovule can be fertilized. The anther cap and stigmatic cavity are separated by rostellum.
